ABOUT
Sheela Barot, M.Ed., J.D., B.A. English
Barot Tutoring and Writing Services specializes in tutoring middle school, high school, and college students. I will help your young adult improve academically, achieve goals, and gain confidence. I am a California credentialed English teacher with more than 10 years of teaching experience who is dedicated and committed to providing the best tutoring services for my students. I previously taught English at a middle school in Oak Park, Illinois before moving to California, where I worked at Beckman High School as a freshman Honors English teacher and sophomore English teacher with experience in teaching ESL students.

I graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in English Literature, The John Marshall Law School with a J.D., and then DePaul University with a M.Ed.
I am compassionate, understanding, resourceful, and qualified to meet the varied needs of my students. I take pride in knowing how to serve the whole child, and ensure academic success in the areas of Writing, English, and Test Prep.

What We Provide
WRITING TUTORING
We help students become better writers and communicators by focusing on the improvement of organization and structure, clarity and accuracy, style, syntax, voice, and grammar. Writing is a skill that requires knowledge of good writing traits and applying those traits consistently through practice. We provide the necessary tools to ensure students are armed with the right skills needed to excel at all types of writing.
COLLEGE ESSAY TUTORING
Whether you need help with the Common Application Essay, Supplemental Essay, or both, we are here to assure you write the best possible essay needed to gain admission into the college of your choice. We customize instruction for each student; so we can help you through all stages of writing your personal statement, from beginning to end, or by simply guiding you through the process with appropriate feedback and editing.
ENGLISH TUTORING
We help students in any area of the English/Language Arts Common Core curriculum. Our experience is primarily from 6th through 12th grades. We offer one-on-one personalized instruction to improve reading comprehension skills, vocabulary, and grammar. Students will gain confidence, knowledge, and the skill to succeed in English.
SAT/ACT TUTORING
We assist students in increasing test scores by providing an individualized, strategic approach that is results driven. We provide test prep for English, Reading and the Essay. We help students maximize their time and effort by employing test-taking strategies and useful tips to earn a higher score and reduce anxiety.
